Winter was finally starting to thaw, which meant the forests of England were coming back to life. Ermentrude settled onto a grassy dune facing the sea to rest. It was too soon in the season for most of the herbs she collected to trade with, but there were a few that survived in harsher conditions she'd managed to find. Her herb pouch was far from full, but it would have to do given the season. It wasn't like she needed the coin for food or shelter. She could procure that through other means. But trading made for easy contact with other people, and since she'd left France and her husband behind there had been few opportunities for contact with other people.
The sun wouldn't rise for a few more hours, so Ermentrude had decided it was time to relax before finding a place to take shelter. She could enjoy the sound of the waves crashing on the beach, and the gorgeous views of the beach at night for a little while longer. She'd eaten the night before, so it would be another day or two before she'd feel the need again. The only thing that could make this night better would be some company.
