A Magical Roleplaying Experience

Location: Dia de los Muertos Celebration • Date: November 1

Gethin neatly sidestepped out of the way of a dancing pair, chuckling. It had been a good idea to use his savings to travel to Mexico for the Day of the Dead celebration, he decided, since no one knew him there. He was simply another tourist dressed in a fancy suit with face paint. It was actually fun.

He especially enjoyed looking at the elaborate designs people painted on their faces. Lost in thought, he didn't realize he was staring at a particularly good design.

Quinn had never been happier that her father had managed to get her time off school to go to the Dia de los Muertos celebration in Mexico. It was something she had always wanted to go to, and now she had the chance to go. A portkey had brought them there, and to make things better, she didn't even have to worry about Zara or the other man. Not even the twins had come! It was solely a father-daughter event.

She wandered through the crowds, gazing around at the people surrounding her, until she came face to face with someone fully decked out in face paint. "Oh!" she breathed, taking it all in. "Sorry, you just... wow." Only then did she notice he wasn't even looking at her. He was looking over her shoulder, and she glanced behind her. "Oh, that one's even better!"

Gethin wasn't paying attention to the kid in front of him, lost in thought as he stared across the crowd. Then her shrill voice cut through and he blinked.

"What?" he asked, finally taking her in. Something about her seemed familiar, but he couldn't place her.

"The face paint. It's incredible. Yours is, too," Quinn piped up, squinting at the older boy. Something about him seemed familiar to her, too, but she couldn't be sure.

"Have you tried the tamales over there?" she asked, pointing. "They're pretty good." Later, she and her dad were going to offer some tamales to the special altar they had created in their hotel room, but for now, she was enjoying the party.

Now that he had spoken a complete sentence to her, Quinn finally was able to place the voice. "Wait a second. Don't I know you? Aren't you..." she trailed off, her eyes widening. "Holy crap, you're Gethin Pumphrey, aren't you?" He was somewhat of a living legend to her. Their time at Hogwarts had only overlapped for two years, but in that time she had seen him yell, scream, and mope all over the Gryffindor common room. The voice was unmistakable. "What are you doing in Mexico?"

"Oh," Gethin replied simply, staring at her. "I see." He relaxed a bit. He hadn't really paid much attention to the younger students in his house, but now that she said it, he kind of recognized her. "What are you doing all the way out here, then?" He forgot he hadn't even answered her question yet.

Quinn nodded, hearing her name through the crowd. She turned, seeing her dad waving at her. "Yeah, over there," she replied, taking a step back. "I gotta go, now, but it was nice seeing you. Enjoy the rest of the festival!" she chirped, skipping away.
