After a beautiful wedding, both the extravagant one their parents wanted, and the secret one they wanted, Levi and Ana had set off on honeymoon to enjoy the rainforests of Puerto Rico. But Levi felt the just being home, and married to Anna, was the best part of all!

Soon everything had settled down and life returned to normal... almost.

Today as Levi waited for Ana to return to their flat he began to pace. He tried to busy himself with looking through some of the prints of houses Ana had been looking at for them to possibly buy but... he was too distracted. All he could do was look at the door and wait for her to return home and try to think about how he was going to explain this to her...

Now that everything had settled, Ana finally felt relaxed. Things were good, and married life was wonderful so far. After he had mentioned about her becoming a stay at home wife, it had got her thinking...that was what she was made for. She wanted nothing more than to be a mother to a number of children, and would take great joy in looking after them and Levi. She liked to cook, and clean, and be affectionate, and garden, and spend time with children! What more could she want? And if they could afford it? Why not?

But first they had to have the kids...when could she bring that up again?

Unlocking the door, she stepped into their home. She smiled brightly at her husband and walked right over, planting a kiss to his cheek. "Hello, my love." She spoke gently before turning to out some of the groceries on the table. She glanced over her shoulder at him, tilting her head a little.

"Something on the mind?"

"Yes, yes indeed," said Levi, coming over to her. He gave her a quick kiss on the lips, then looking at her he said, "Ana.. let's sit down a moment, over here..." he said, leading her to the sofa.

Taking a seat himself he cleared his throat, then smiling he said, "You know how I told you we could talk about having children after the wedding? Well, Kyle and I worked out the final details and it seems we have a very good possibility that we could find a way to help you stay pregnant and carry to term. We could begin to try with in the next few months possible..."

He paused then to smile at her and gage her reaction.

Ana stared at him a moment, her heart catching mid-beat in her chest. And then, a smile began to form on her lips, and her hand was brought up to clasp over her mouth.

"Really!?" She gasped, muffled by her fingers. She nodded feverishly. "Okay! Yes! Okay...next couple of months. Or weeks? Days? When can we start?" She asked, clearly extremely excited as she lurched forward, kissing him multiple times on the mouth, hands cupping his face as she did.

Levi kissed her in return, but there was something off about him, something a little stiff, and nervous, and finally he placed his hands on Ana's shoulders and said,

"Wait, Ana… there is more. We have a good idea about what needs to be done. But it's a bit tricky... maybe even dangerous if not done right. It isn't the sort of thing that should be done for the first time on a real live human. What I am saying is... well... under normal circumstances I would want to try these methods out on a cadaver first to be sure all went well..."

He did not really have to say more then that... or state the obvious issue...

Ana hesitated, glancing away, and then offered a small smile.

"But...These are not normal circumstances, are they?" She said gently, leaning forward and holding his hand. "I trust both you and Kyle to do this on me...really, there is no real need to lengthen the process with the practice runs. I would like nothing more than to start our family as soon as possible without delay."

She hoped the slight twitch in her lip didn't give her real concern away...

"Ana..." said Levi, his eyes opening wide, "I... I don't think you understand. You don't just perform a delicate procedure such as this on a perfectly healthy person with out practice. We would be risking you... even if it didn't mean your death, if something went terribly wrong it could mean we would have to permanently close the door on you even having natural children of your own. You don't understand what one slip could mean. Is it worth it? We can always adopt.. To me... it's not worth the risk! This isn't to save your life. You and your health, are more important to me then having any children at all. Ever. And I think if you understood you would agree and not want to subject yourself to that."

Ana pulled her hand away, staring down at the table.

"I always said I would be willing to adopt but...Now with the opportunity to have children of my own..."

Her chest tightened. It was all too much!

"Perhaps there is another way. Something you and Kyle haven't thought up yet! Something you don't need to use dead bodies for, right?" She gave a forced smile, then nodded encouragingly. "Then it's settled. We can wait a couple of months whilst you figure that out, and then we can get started with the safer option."

Levi knit his brows, then said, "Do you realize how long we have been working on this already? Yes! There is a safer option Ana! Adoption! Or maybe you can stop a moment and think about what you are saying. I am sure in your life time you, or your loved ones, have needed to seek medical help. How do you think they gained that knowledge? How do you think the medical community is able to operate under the high standards that it does today? From the use of cadavers when inventing and training. Ana... if you object to me training like a healer when I am not... why trust me or Kyle to act as one on you in this?"

Ana felt herself tensing. And soon she was on her feet, beginning to pace, her hands shaking and breath unsteady. She wanted a natural birth. She wanted a baby! And yes she could adopt; she would love the child all the same, but she wanted to experience pregnancy. She wanted to be a successful mother! She didn't want to be this failure of a woman, regardless of how Levi tried to comfort her.

A sick thought crossed her mind. What if it wasn't real? What if there was actually not need to experiment on the dead and Levi was only backing her into a corner so he could go back on his word!? No. Surely not! She dare not even think so lowly of him...and yet...Perhaps...no! The stress was intense, and she must have been silent for a good few minutes, racking her brain, pushing her hands through her hair. The problem was...Despite her being happy to adopt, she had now had the taste of possibility. She was hopeful. It was at the tip of her fingers, her lifelong dream of being a mother had been so close...and now she could choose to dash it forever. But was that excuse enough to allow Levi to do these abhorrent experiments?

"Can't Kyle experiment on his own?" She whispered in her last ditch effort.

Knitting his brows, Levi said,

“Well... yes, he could. If he will agree to doing the entire thing on his own. And if he will agree to move in with us for about six months. The spell will need to be maintained constantly we believe. Every morning, afternoon, evening, and once in the middle of the night. After six months a fetus has a much better chance of survival should you go i pnto early labor. So he could stop after that but... how would I even begin to have that conversation with him? My wife doesn’t want me to do something she believes in abhorent, so she wants you to do it... and to be terribly inconvenienced for it when I could have done it the same? Are you thinking this out properly Ana?”

Levi sighed, but said, "Essentially… yes. It's either wrong or it's right Ana. I mean we can pretend that some how exceptions should be made but... that is what it boils down to. And I really am fine with adopting if that is how you feel about it. I considered just not tell you and doing what had to be done but... I could never lie to you like that. It just felt wrong... even to keep you happy and innocent."

Levi watched her go, then sat back on the sofa with a sigh.

He shouldn't have told her. He should have just...

… but no. He was not going to start this marriage off with lies. If she had found out she would have been so devastated... or would she? Didn't matter! He was not a liar. He would never be sneaky with her. That was that.

He began to think over the options, think over arguments to her, thinking over everything, but in the end?... he just wanted her to be happy and not to hurt. He just wanted her life to be perfect. But how?

Levi glanced back towards the kitchen, then got up and walked in, and coming up behind Ana he put his arms around her, and resting his chin on her shoulder he said, "Ana?.. I just want you to know I love you to terribly, terribly much. Deeper then I could ever describe. And it's going to be ok. everything will be alright in the end."
