Business Overview
Welcome to Zonko’s Joke Shop! A favorite haunt for many a Hogwarts students on Hogsmeade trips (much to the chagrin of the professors) since it’s establishment in the late 1800’s, Zonko’s carries numerous jokes and tricks that are sure to delight. They sell everything from Dungbombs, Hiccough Sweets, Frog Spawn Soap, Sugar Quills and Nose-Biting Teacups. Zonko’s is always looking to create new products that spread chaos as well as fun, and often conducts survey’s of its customers to see what kind of new jokes they would like to see. During Hogsmeade trips, the shop is usually crowded as sales clerks demonstrate the best and most popular products.
During the Second Wizarding War, Zonko’s closed down and the shop was purchased by Weasley Wizarding Wheezes.
Location
The biggest attraction is the product tester near the till. An employee of Zonko’s Joke Shop will put on demonstrations of the latest gags for all the curious eyes who have come that weekend to see it in action.
Jokes and Pranks
On the outside of Zonko’s Joke Shop, it appears to be a little worn, and perhaps small. However, upon entering, visitors are greeted with large towering shelves as though made with giants in mind. The colour-scheme is bright and vivid, the main palette being of lively red, yellows, greens and blues. Above, guests will see oddly shaped staircases which arch overhead to the next floor.
Entering further into the shop reveals a large display table to the left, bearing such items as ‘Frog Spawn Soap’, ‘Sugar Quills’ and ‘Hiccough Sweets’, all of which are popular in the wizarding world. At the end of the walkway is the counter, stacked with last minute purchases on special offers. Manning the counter is an enchanted mannequin with robot-like movements, almost like a puppet. As joyful as his face is painted to be, he can also be a little creepy to the younger customers.
To the right is the beginning of the staircases which soon lead to the balcony. During the peak seasonal times, staff will decorate the banisters with themed lights, banners, toys and odd nik-naks. During Summer, the top floor and shelves are painted bright green with fake, potted plants displayed in the corners, some of which have been known to spray water at passing customers. Whether you go for the perfect prank, a school trip out in Hogsmeade, or simply want a gift that’s weird and wonderful, Zonko’s is the place to go.
