“Barrels of slimy stuff stood on the floor, jars of herbs, dried roots and bright powders lined the walls, bundles of feathers, strings of fangs and snarled claws hung from the ceiling.”

— Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Business Overview

Welcome to Slug & Jigger’s Apothecary! The most popular potions supplier in all of London, Slug & Jigger’s is practically an institution, which has been around since 1207 AD. While there are other apothecaries in the city, Slug & Jigger’s is famous for, among other things, having a unique Scoop-Your-Own setup which lets customers purchase potions ingredients in bulk, making it a popular stop for those purchasing supplies for school or for their business. The shop, located in Diagon Alley contains three levels of supplies and goods inside. In addition to potions ingredients, the apothecary also staffs a full time Potioneer to brew potions upon request for an additional fee. They also keep common and pre-brewed potions ready to purchase, such as Pepper-Up Potions and Skele-Grow.

Location

Slug & Jigger’s, like most famous UK magical establishments, is located in Diagon Alley. The building, with its facade of dark black bricks, sits near the entrance from The Leaky Cauldron. The store front features large windows filled with signs advertising sales, pre-brewed potions, and by-request brewing services. The sign, which hangs directly over the door, flashes bright green. The store is often busy, and in the weeks leading up to the start of Hogwarts, it is not uncommon for there to be a line forming out the door.

The largest apothecary in the United Kingdom, Slug & Jigger’s is a large store that occupies three floors. The first and second floors are dedicated to the store’s scoop-your-own bins, where customers can purchase common potions ingredients in bulk. Smaller, pre-packaged amounts of ingredients are available for sale as well, on shelves that line the walls on the second floor. The third floor is where pre-brewed potions of ever kind can be found.

Products & Services

Scoop-Your-Own: While many apothecaries bundle their ingredients to order, in addition to this service Slug & Jigger’s also offers a wide variety of ingredients that can be sold by the gram. These ingredients are typically very common and used in a number of everyday potions, and most are relatively mundane or do not react with many other ingredients on their own. More expensive ingredients, those that are rare, and highly dangerous are not sold in this way.

School Supplies: Well known for being a go-to spot for Hogwarts students, Slug & Jigger’s offers discounts for students preparing their potions kits for school and even offers a number of prepackaged kits for those who wish to buy the correct starter ingredients in a hurry. In the days leading up to Start of Term, however, it is not uncommon for some ingredients to be sold out.

Bulk Sales: Though the shop specializes in selling to the everyday witch or wizard, they supply a number of ingredients in bulk to local businesses and those around the United Kingdom who might need to brew potions or cast incantations on a regular basis. This is especially true for schools, restaurants, hospitality businesses, and services such as Scourgify!, a magical cleaning businesses.

Specialty Potions Brewing: As Slug & Jigger’s is an apothecary first and foremost they do not do a great amount of brewing, but some potions may be brewed to order for an extra fee, at the request of the customer. This service may not be available for all potions or during busier times.
