Welcome to Minciunele Bakery! This bakery located in the heart of a bustling Romanian magical district has been family owned since 1947. It satisfies its customers’ appetites by providing all sorts of sweet treats (hence the name “Minciunele”) and savory tastes that are sure to appease even the pickiest eater. In addition to all the familiar offerings one can find in a bakeshop, Minciunele also bakes fresh bread every day and offers special services such as decorative cakes and cupcakes for birthdays, weddings, and christenings.

Location 

Located in the heart of Romania’s charming Sighisoara magical district, the bakery is easily identifiable by its smooth, soft pink exterior with a wooden sign with the bakery name written in purple script lettering. The windows reach from the top of the entrance all the way to a few centimeters off the ground so that customers can get a good look inside the building.

Once inside, customers can head up to the counter where an employee or two usually wait to serve guests their orders. A long glass display case sits to the left of the register where customers can see what the shop is offering that day. From the front end of the shop, any guest can see an icebox where specially ordered cakes are held for pick up and an entranceway into the kitchen. While most customers grab-and-go their orders, Minciunele does offer very limited seating inside the bakery, with three tables of two lined up against the windows.

Minciunele’s menu is based on years of family recipes. Passed down through the women, it is now owned by Tereza Vaduva. Customers can find traditional Romanian recipes such as plum dumplings, baked apples, honey and spice cookies, and the classic papanaşi (pronounced pa-pa-nahsh), a doughnut made of farmer’s cheese and topped with sour cream and delicious jam. It’s one of their top sellers. The shop has been experimenting with new recipes every generation, however, and currently sells a variety of cupcake flavors featured every week.The bakery has started selling breakfast and lunch items as well. Customers can start their days with a fresh polenta cake with jam, an apple strudel, or a bowl of mamaglia, a cornmeal dish perfect for winter days. After breakfast and a few hours into their day, customers can always come back for lunch to buy a variety of fresh sandwiches made daily. But hurry! These have been selling out fast, especially among the younger crowds now populating the magical district.If a customer is looking to celebrate a special day for themselves or their family, they’re welcome to come to Minciunele Bakery and speak with a manager or a Special Orders Coordinator about what they’d like. Currently, the bakery takes orders on custom cakes and cupcakes with cake flavors of vanilla, chocolate, lemon, and raspberry. They offer fruit or icing fillings and buttercream (any flavor) or fondant to finish off the order. Customers will work closely with the cake decorator to achieve their best possible design for their special day.
