Location

Located in Surrey, England, there’s nothing really special about this muggle factory. Grunnings takes up a large portion of the land it sits on in the form on a red brick building that houses the actual factory and some of its offices. The factory grounds are fairly quiet except when workers go on their lunch breaks. Employees and visitors enter through a large wrought iron gate that is controlled by a security officer in a small booth.

Once past the gate and into the large brick factory, the quiet ends. The loud, invasive sounds of machines can be heard throughout the building, even in the office upstairs which can be accessed via a single lift.

Factory
Once stepping into the main factory, after being checked by security and led into the main manufactory, the smell of metal is overwhelming. Toward the left at the end of the large hall is a sectioned off area for workers to neaten out pieces on the conveyor belt, which is making its way around the room. Large machines are placed around the centre of the room, giving employees enough room to weave their way through, manually checking the machinery. And to the right, is a section specifically for assembling the electric components of each drill.

Coming out of the main factory floor and back into the corridor will give the option of turning right to the staff cloakroom where employees are able to shower, change and keep their possessions during work. The second right leads to the break room; a small staff lounge area and kitchen, though it only has simple appliances such as a kettle and a microwave. The colours within such rooms are plain, the majority being made up of greys with the odd brown chair. There is a back door that leads out onto the factory grounds.

Should you continue down the corridor to the left, it would lead you to the quality assurance department, which is where the majority of the noise comes from. Employees will test the drills’ endurance, grip and overall performance before finally cleaning them up to be sent to the packing quarters at the far end of the building. The packing quarters are attached to a car park where lorries and delivery vans can take the items to the desired locations to be later sold.

Upon taking the lift to the upper floors, visitors will come across the offices where data handling, marketing representing and accounting takes place. There are around ten floors which contain: storage rooms, office staff break rooms, cleaning cupboards and even more offices. Once again, the decor is worn and dull, but still very professional.
