“Where the shelves were stacked to the ceiling with books as large as paving stones bound in leather; books the size of postage stamps in covers of silk; books full of peculiar symbols

and a few books with nothing in them at all.”

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Business Overview

Welcome to Flourish & Blotts Bookshop! Located in bustling Diagon Alley, Flourish & Blotts Bookshop had been the #1 magical bookshop in London since it was established in 1654. It has served as the official bookseller for Hogwart’s students to purchase their schoolbooks for nearly as long. The shop hosts weekly book club meetings and readings by authors. It often hosts book signings with world famous authors such as Gilderoy Lockhart. The store also has an owl postal order service which allows customers from all over the world to buy quality books at a fair price.

Location

Flourish & Blotts Bookshop has been a fixture in Diagon Alley for centuries. What started out as a small, one room store has grown to be one of the bigger shops in the alley. The outer facade of the two-story building is made up of white brick, which have taken a light grey tone with the accumulation of hundreds of years worth of dirt. The front also features a large windows in which passerbys can view posters advertising newly released and upcoming events.

Inside, customers will find floor to ceiling shelves filled with an assortment of books in different sizes and colors. The first floor is where students can find their textbooks and other practical knowledge books such as cookbooks and encyclopedias. The second floor is reserved for fiction books aimed at readers of all ages. The owl post order service office is located in a large room on the second floor. Owls can be seen flying in and out of the office at regular intervals during the day.

Literature
As soon as customers enter the store, they are greeted with the smell of freshly printed pages and bound leather. Every inch of space is filled with books, from the floor to ceiling bookshelves to the standing displays. Flourish & Blotts Bookshop sells books for almost every every need (those looking for banned books or books about Dark Magic will have to look elsewhere).

The first floor is where non-fiction books such as biography, history, and reference books can be found. During the summer months, this area of the shop is filled with Hogwarts students and their parents, as the store serves as the official seller of textbooks. The table displays on this floor also offer customers a look at new releases from famous authors as well as up-and-coming writers. Those interested in foreign language books can also find a sizable collection near the tills.

The second floor is home to fiction books. The shelves are separated by genre, with drama, romance, and mystery being the most popular. There is also a young adult section and a children’s area. There are also a few sofas and chairs with purple, velvet upholstery found on the second floor.

The owl post order service offices are also found on the second floor. The office can be reached via a small, black door wedged between two bookshelves in the mystery genre section. The room is bright and airy due to the large windows. Dozens of owl cages line the wall, while workers receive and fulfill orders at desks in the middle of the room. Customers hoping to use the mail courier service can simply send a written request via owl. Flourish & Blotts Bookshop also offers a book of the month service in which subscribers are sent a new book every month.
